Meet Joe, the founder of Banner Department.

Joe loves coffee, photography, and making quality banners and pennants for bold brands and people. He also loves sharing your awesome designs with his two young sons who give them the Department seal of approval.

He founded Banner Department in late 2020 during lockdown when screen time was at an all-time high. Needing a physical outlet for his creative energy and skill (his background is in photography and digital marketing), Joe bought a sewing machine and soon discovered he was pretty nifty with a needle and thread.

Banner Department was born fuelled by this new-found passion and inspired by the American tradition* of custom felt pennants. As a brand, it lives to champion creativity and make you stand out.

* You may only know them from American high school movies, but pennant flags have been a big deal in the U.S. since the 1900s. Originally used to show support for sports teams, these banners also acted as forever keepsakes. Sadly, since then, what was homespun has turned into mass-produced and durable felt has been swapped for cheap, synthetic material. Banner Department is working to revive this awesome American tradition for its pals in the U.K.

Where we come from

We craft and post everything from our studio in Warwickshire, U.K.. For all you U.K. and Europe-based folk, that means you get your slice of Americana without the nasty financial and environmental costs of international shipping. Can I get a “hell yeah” for that?

What we're made of

Give our banners a feel and you’ll notice their lovely, tactile nature. This is thanks to wool felt, an ancient material which we think is much nicer than synthetic vinyl alternatives (ick!).
